Editor’s Picks – Engineering Management Review (EMR)

By Alexander Brem

Welcome to another selection of “EMR Editor’s Picks”. EMR aims to provide you with practice-oriented, evidence-based insights from our journal of practice, EMR. Enjoy your full access to all articles mentioned here through your TEMS IEEE Xplore access.

Our last EMR issue open-access editorial had the topic “Transformative Learning as a Catalyst for Innovation in Times of Uncertainty” (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10366453). We cover, as always, a broad range of topics, such as the aspects of innovations, transformation, and learning in various ways. And we do this on purpose. Our readership typically includes engineers with management functions. And all these topics are highly relevant in these days of uncertainty and unexpected changes. So, it is important to cover such a broad range to reflect upon this and offer guidance on approaching these challenges. This refers to the earlier introduced concepts of adaptive and transformative learning. Never stop learning and developing your style to manage, develop, and challenge.

One highlight of this issue is the article from Christian Le Bas (France) on frugal innovation. Here, you learn more about the background of the concept and why this has an impact on engineering management beyond emerging markets (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10190074). Another one is the article for Xavier Ferras-Hernandez (Spain), where he introduces his Holistic Model of Innovation combining innovation, risk, and rewards (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10239340). Furthermore, Robert Cooper (USA) and Peter Fürst (Austria) highlight their learnings on agile project management in companies, which is a must-read for all engineering managers (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10223295). Finally, I would like to mention the article of Shikha Singh, Roshan Batheri and Joyal Dias, all from India. Their view of predictive analytics might be interesting far beyond their scope of the automotive industry (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10168881)

Last but not least, you might be interested in contributing to EMR. A good opportunity is an ongoing Special Issue Special Issue on Technology Management in Metaverse Technology and Applications (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10366450)

Stay tuned for the next editions of Editor’s Picks, we are happy to hear from you.
