Chaired by Ikhlaq Sidhu Berkeley Professor, Chief Scientist & Founding Director, Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology. The program Co-chair is Michael Condry, President-Elect TEMS.
Overview
The Internet of Things is certainly an exciting new paradigm for to enable a set of new systems in applications from wearable devices, healthcare, connected vehicles, power grids, smart manufacturing, and virtually every emerging area in technology. However, just combining cheaper sensors, connectivity, and cloud-based analytics does not by itself mean that products and services can be designed, rolled out, and used. A number of intersecting business and technology challenges must be considered in taking any IoT project forward to market.
This starts with an interpretation of the evolving standards set, selected topics in security, challenges of rolling out IoT services, tools and technology building blocks available for solutions, IoT system architectures, and power considerations. Following these presentations and networking is a hands-on workshop with technical and business experts to work with attendees on their particular challenges, large and small. This portion is for workshop registrants only and is designed to benefit small business, startups, as well as larger enterprises with new focuses in the IoT space.
This hands on workshop will help Entrepreneurs to understand methods to successfully commercialize an innovative system or product based on IoT. Topics in this section include a) developing the IoT story that executives will understand and support, b) developing the ecosystem, c) process and diversification issues within the firm, d) participating in an innovation culture within the firm, e) what management can do to support the innovation within the firm, and f) understanding what tends to go wrong and how to avoid the most common mistakes.
