Call for Papers: AI in Engineering Management

Open Call for Papers IEEE Engineering Management Review (EMR)

Technology Manager’s Notebook Articles on
Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Management

IEEE Engineering Management Review (EMR) is a premier outlet for the research and
practice of engineering, technology, and innovation management, with a tradition of more than
fifty years of publishing. IEEE EMR has built a reputation for high-quality, evidence-based
practice-oriented publications.

The journal aims to present state-of-the-art thinking and practices from original contributions that
are based on technological developments, actual practice, or a strong academic theoretical foundation.

With our special section of Technology Manager’s Notebook (TMN) articles, we invite authors from
industry to share their experiences and best practices. Our team of TMN editors is available to help
you develop an insightful article that creates impact.

IEEE EMR has already published several articles on AI in Engineering Management, and specifically
TMN articles. Based on these, we look for articles in a variety of topical areas, including:

  • Moving Product/Services from Idea to Market
    • Accelerating the Lifecycle: Tools and practices that expedite time to market
    • AI-First Products and Services: Lessons from building and scaling AI-centric offerings.
  • Identifying and Implementing Successful Projects, and Systems
    • AI in Project & System Management: Automated tracking, status reviews, and corrective
      actions for continuous improvement.
    • AI in Supply Chain & Operations: Case studies on cost efficiency, speed, and resilience across
      procurement, and logistics.
  • Integrating Technology for Capability and Productivity
    • Everyday AI Productivity and Usability: Workflow gains, usability findings, and known limits
from coding copilots to customer agents.
    • Measuring AI impact and ROI: Methods to quantify productivity, quality, and outcomes.
  • Developing from Engineer to Leader
    • Team-Level AI Adoption: Strategies, guidelines, and leader-led pilots for responsible rollout.
    • People Management in the AI Era: Hiring, upskilling, evaluation, and ethics in the AI Era.
  • Balancing the Norms of Society, Government, and Regulators
    • AI Safety and Ethics in critical domains such as health, infrastructure, and finance.
    • AI Constitutions and Governance: Designing, testing, and enforcing guardrails.

If you want to share your managerial experience, we look forward to receiving your article for IEEE EMR.

Technology Manager’s Notebook (TMN) Articles have a length of 500–2000 words, excluding
references and appendices. Further information about this submission type is available in this earlier
TMN call or in this recent editorial about what makes a contribution to IEEE EMR.

We welcome research papers with a high practical impact as regular submissions to IEEE EMR. Pure
research papers with significant methodological and theoretical development are more appropriate
for our sister journal, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management. Very short insights with up to
600 words are appropriate for TEMS Leadership BRIEFS.

Submissions must be made to the IEEE Author Portal.
