Today, organizations strive to become agile and to operate profitably in an increasingly competitive environment of continuously and unpredictably changing markets (Filos, 2008). With the beginning of the Fourth Industry Revolution, engineering and technology management has become the main instruments of the organizations to achieve competitive advantage. Current technological developments have initiated new revolutions in many fields as manufacturing, healthcare, management information, etc. 

New market forces are emerging with this rapid change in technological advances together with the globalization. For any organization to survive and prosper in such an environment, innovation is imperative (Lee and Trimi, 2018). For resource-constrained emerging markets, researches are conducted on how to offer innovative and high-tech products with low-cost capital investments (Ravishankar and Gurca, 2015). Entrepreneurs began to bring new technologies to the market, taking into account more user-friendly products, technological services and innovative solutions (Neumeyer et al., 2018). Many companies face the challenge of deciding which future strategies to develop in-house versus buying them outside by considering the high level of technological uncertainty (Fixson et al., 2017). In the field of engineering management, the literature consider integrated vehicle health management to detect and predict machine-specific problems and determine advanced management strategies (Snider et al., 2018). Therefore, in today’s world, companies make use of technology and innovation to gain superiority, and literature studies provide investigations that will pave the way for these developments.

The relationships between organizations and innovation require full consideration under a wide range of academic fields, in the current digital age. The special issue aims to address the cutting edge developments regarding engineering and technology management playing an important role in digitalization, which is highly impactful in a wide range of fields; including business world, academic environment, and social life amongst others. It considers to integrate engineering systems with management systems within the context of technology in the digital age.

The issue is open to all contributions proposing both new methods and advances in existing techniques which shed light upon its relationships with the current state and future of engineering and technology management in the digital age. Contributions dealing with the engineering and management problems related to technology in real-world business decision situations are particularly welcome.

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. 

Conference papers is only be submitted if the paper has been completely re-written and if appropriate written permissions have been obtained from any copyright holders of the original paper.
Manuscripts should be submitted through the publisher’s online system. Submissions will be reviewed according to the journal’s rigorous standards and procedures through double-blind peer review by at least two qualified reviewers. 

Submission Process 

Please prepare the manuscript according to IEEE-TEM’s guidelines (http://www.ieee-tems.org/guidelines-for-authors) and submit to the journal’s Manuscript Central site (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tem-ieee). Please upload the paper on the IEEE TEM Editorial Manager clearly indicating it is submission for the IEEE TEM Special Issue on Technology Management in Digital Transformation Era.

Guest Editor Bios

Dr. Ferhan ÇEBI is a professor in Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Management, Management Engineering Department. She holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from ITU, a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Management Engineering from ITU.  She gives the lectures on Operations Research and Operations Management at the undergraduate level and graduate level. Her main research areas are application of Operations Research techniques to the manufacturing and service problems, production planning and control, fuzziness and mathematical modelling, decision analysis, decision support systems, information technology for competitiveness. She is organizing national and international scientific meeting and she is serving scientific committee member and organization committee member for a number of national & international conferences.  Dr. Cebi is member of editorial boards of International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector, International Journal of Information & Decision Sciences, and International Journal of Data Sciences. She has been acted as a quest editor for a number of journal such as Journal of Enterprise Information Management, IJITPM, IJBAN, IJORIS, IJKBO. Her works have been published in several international and national conference proceedings and journals such as Computers and Industrial Engineering, Information Sciences, Information Systems Frontiers, Journal of Enterprise Information Management, International Journal of Information and Decision Sciences, etc.

Dr. Tunç BOZBURA was born in 1964 in Istanbul. F. Tunç Bozbura studied in the Department of Management Science and Engineering at Istanbul Technical University between 1983-1987. He graduated from the doctoral study in Istanbul Technical University Institute of Science and Engineering Program in 2002. Besides academic career, he worked as Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Strategic Planning between 1988-2000. 

Prof. F. Tunç Bozbura began working as a faculty member in Bahçeşehir University Industrial Engineering Department in 2001. He published more than 30 papers in international refereed journals, and got more than 400 citation. He is working as a  Vice Rector of Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul.

Dr. Sıtkı GÖZLÜ is a retired professor of Operations and Technology Management. He served more than thirty years at the Management Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Bogazici University (June 1969), a M.A. in Management from Istanbul University (June 1981), and a Ph.D. in Management Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (June 1986). His research interests are in the areas of technology, innovation, quality, and project management. His works have been published in international and national journals and conference proceedings. He is a member of Turkish Chamber of Chemical Engineers, Production and Operations Management Society (U.S.A.), European Operations Management Association, and American Society for Quality.

IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management is journal of the Technology and Engineering Management Society of IEEE, published quarterly since 1954. It is dedicated to the publication of peer-reviewed original contributions, by researchers and practitioners, regarding the theory and practice of engineering, technology, and innovation management.
