Theme

Decision problems have been complicated by an ever-greater degree of complexity, forcing decision makers to seek out for new approaches and methodologies that facilitate the processes that support decision making (Keeney, 1992; Belton and Stewart, 2002).

Multiple Criteria Decision Making/Analysis (MCDM/A) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques constitute valuable tools for structuring and evaluating complex decision situations, and can allow for more informed, potentially better decision automatisms (Carayannis et al., 2018). These techniques are able to produce highly-sophisticated assessment systems built on expert knowledge, and have grown exponentially over the past few years, causing a change in the field of operational research/management science (OR/MS) (Zavadskas et al., 2014).

This special issue aims to bring together recent developments and methodological contributions within MCDM/A and AI in innovation, entrepreneurship and business development. Although reworking of case studies from other authors and bibliometric literature reviews are strongly discouraged, it is open to all contributions proposing both new methods and advances in existing techniques. Contributions dealing with MCDM/A and AI in real-world business decision situations are particularly welcome. We are interested in topics such as:

  • AI algorithmic designs and architectures: Evolutionary, reinforcement and higher older learning
  • Collaborative decision making
  • Decision models for competitive gains
  • Decision support and strategic planning
  • Expert systems, intelligent agents and semantic technologies
  • Machine learning concept, context and algorithms
  • MCDA applications for policy making
  • MCDM/A and AI applications in various sectors (e.g., education, medicine, finance, defence, diplomacy, development, politics, retail, and supply chains).
  • Mental models and cognitive mapping
  • Performance measurement system design and development
  • Soft systems for complex problems
  • Supervised vs. Autonomous learning, associative learning and higher order learning
  • Swarms, networks and clusters of intelligence
  • Systems thinking and business dynamics
  • Value-focused thinking

Submission Process

    • Papers should be original, unpublished, and not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Before submitting manuscripts, authors are advized to ensure that they have conformed to the requirements detailed in the instructions to authors that can be found on the journal’s homepage.
    • Manuscripts which are incorrectly formatted or do not contain all the required elements may be desk-rejected.
    • All inquiries should be sent directly to Professor Fernando Ferreira (fernando.alberto.ferreira@iscte.pt) and cc ALL co-editors, clearly indicating in the subject “Special issue in IEEE TEM MCDMA & AI FOR E&I”.

  • Please upload all papers on the IEEE TEM Editorial Manager clearly indicating they are submissions for the IEEE TEM SI MCDMA & AI FOR E&I” and also email them to ALL co-editors.

Please prepare the manuscript according to IEEE-TEM’s guidelines (http://ieee-tmc.org/tem-guidelines) and submit it the journal’s Manuscript Central site (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tem-ieee). Please clearly state in the cover letter that the submission is for this special issue.

Each paper is desk reviewed by the guest-editor/s and, if it is judged suitable for this publication, it is then sent to two independent referees for double blind peer review. All papers will be subject to the journal’s usual reviewing procedure to ensure a high quality of the contributions. As a general guideline, papers should be reviewed for appropriateness within a week of submission. The average time to first decision should be 60 days. The average time from submission to acceptance should be 180 days. The target number of accepted papers is 10 + Introduction/Editorial.

Schedule

  • Submission of the Full Paper: December 31, 2020

  • Tentative date for double blind review outcome: March 31, 2021
  • Final submission: May 31, 2021
